The festival’s tradition of providing interesting, educational and entertaining lectures continues with the 2018 festival. Thanks to Susan Purkart, chair, and the Education Committee, the lineup will once again be an interesting one.
10:30 a.m. – “Dickens 101” – Miranda Steege – Miranda is a University of California, Riverside PhD student studying Victorian literature with a special interest in spiritualism.
12:15 p.m. – “Dickens’s Great Expectations” – Prof. Michael Cohen – Prof. Cohen is from UCLA studies of the transatlantic literatures of the 19th century.
1:15 p.m. – “A Tale of Two Frankensteins” – Miranda Butler – Miranda is a University of California, Riverside PhD student who specializes in Victorian literature as it relates to the history of science. She is co-curator of the UCR Library exhibit 200 Years of Frankenstein.
2:15 p.m. – “Victorian Beverages” – Richard Foss – Richard is a food critic and culinary historian who has been writing about dining for California publications since 1987.
3:15 p.m. – “Dickens and Victorian Christianity”– Rev. Sharon Sheffield – Rev. Sheffield is an Episcopal priest who lectures on a variety of topics for local audiences.
